KATSEYE Round 02: Taking Gnarly to the Extreme
Plus, my ultimate MAYHEM track by track ranking <3
I had so much fun reworking KATSEYE’s single, Gameboy, a couple weeks ago, I had to come back for round two and try my hand at Gnarly. I had seen a lot of discourse about this track after it was released, some mixed reviews, but also a lot of hype, so I wasn’t too sure what I was getting myself into.
After my first listen of the acapella, I can understand what the internet was talking about, the song’s a little bit all over the place. Beyond that, it was super different from Gameboy - definitely a complete switch up from that track. With how chaotic the vocal seemed, I knew I wanted to create a track that could match that energy. I feel like I was successful on that count. Take a listen and let me know how you think mine compares to the original <3
Here’s the acapella I used, if you want to have a listen to that first:
And the original track if you haven’t heard it yet either (the music video is so much fun):
Netflix Rec:
In between editing this weekend, I watched that new Netflix documentary, Unknown Number. You need to watch it if you haven’t already, omg. What even??? I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but it’s one of the most wtf catfishing stories I’ve seen. And tbh, I think Nev could have figured out who was behind it all a lot quicker than these cops did, I was able to call it in the first 5 minutes, but whatever.
Listen to MAYHEM with me:
Earlier in the week, I dropped a track by track ranking for Lady Gaga’s album MAYHEM - it was a lot of fun, but I also feel like I might have had some unpopular opinions according to the Spotify streaming stats? Let me know if you agreed with how I ordered these songs. Which ones are in your top 5?
