Producing Songs I’ve Never Heard: YIPPEE-KI-YAY by Kesha [EPISODE 04]
Kesha and T-Pain went country and... I definitely did not
This week, I’m producing a track for YIPPEE-KI-YAY. by Kesha, her latest single featuring none other than T-Pain. I listened to JOYRIDE. when it dropped last year and have been so hyped for whatever Kesha’s got coming next.
From everything I’ve seen online, fans have been ready for the return of OG Kesha - more wild, bold, and unfiltered - after a few years of more experimental albums. So naturally, I was hoping for that energy going into this one.
To add another layer to the challenge, I decided to limit myself to using only one sample pack: Tokyo Machine Bass House by Dropgun Samples on Splice
Here’s the acapella if you want to play along and hear what I heard first:
Kesha - YIPPEE-KI-YAY. (feat. T-Pain) | Acapella (Vocals Only)
The acapella had a strong country vibe, which honestly surprised me. I still expected the final production to lean electronic, especially after JOYRIDE., but… I was way off.
Their official production is actually super stripped-back, just a low-key pop guitar and some straightforward drums. My favorite element, though, was in the post-chorus: those stacked, choir-style oohs underneath the lead vocal. Gorgeous.
For my version, I wanted to go in a much more synth-heavy direction, leaning into that bass house aesthetic. I also took some liberties with the chord progressions, especially in the pre-chorus, where I really leaned into tension and build.
🎧 What did you think? Was the new key a cool take, or too much of a shift?

🎬 New Music Video!
On April 11th, I dropped the official video for my latest single chatterbox—a self-produced, DIY project inspired by dystopian films like The Matrix and the feeling of being trapped in an overstimulating reality.
It was one of the most creatively rewarding things I’ve done recently—check it out here, and if you vibe with it, don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe:
